Czech Trip. Czech it out!

DIS gives us two weeks of traveling. You can take the time to make your own plans, or you can take the easy way out and sign up for trips that DIS has! Once I read that they were offering a week long outdoor trip throughout the Czech Republic, I signed up immediately. How could I say no to living in a castle for a week, zip lining and doing a high ropes course over gorges, archery, rock climbing, hiking, caving, and time with my three favorite friends: Anne Randolph, Becca, and Clair.  
The trip was incredible. Nature is beautiful. 
God is Good.

Just have to point out that we stayed in the castle in the background for a week.

Great HalloDay to be a Great Dane

Anne Randolph and I were so excited be able to celebrate Halloween at the folkhojskole but had no idea what we were in for. Halloween is new in Denmark and completely different then what goes down in America. When we walked down to the formal dinner as Great Dane dogs (a witty outfit in our opinion), we were immediately out of place in a crowded room of gore, blood, bruises, and altogether the scariest costumes I have ever seen. They take it to the extreme. The Danes have another holiday in February called Festerlavn in which everyone dresses in their costume of choice and thus use Halloween as a day to have morbid outfits. Not only did we miss the "get gory" memo, but the outfits Anne Randolph and I thought were going to be such a hit - being Great Danes in Denmark - was a major struggle. The Danes call Great Danes by the french name and didn't catch on to our costume...instead thinking were some type of animal dressed as a "great" Dane. Ha!

ShaBAM Hillerod is Amazing

Frederiksborg Castle...the heart of my town, Hillerød. I pass by it at least twice a day on the bus to the train station  and I'm constantly in awe of its' beauty...Everytime I think, "Is this real life? Do I actually live next to this castle?" It IS the castle of Denmark and I'm lucky enough to have in be only a half mile away from my folkhojskole. The castle was built in the late 1500's and was the home of Denmark kings during the sixteenth century. It is surrounded by lakes and has a baroque garden in the back that is the size of a large park. Everything about this castle is magical. Unfortunately my camera died and I only could only capture a few pictures of the garden in the back and the castle itself...but just wait for another post of the inside of the castle and the many ponds, gardens, and the mini castle that is also apart of Frederiksborg. 

Be prepared to be amazed.

Happy Kids Birthday FolkHojskole

Words cannot begin to describe the amazing living situation I have been blessed with. Grundtsvig hojskole is where it's at. I have met the most remarkable people, ranging from the large majority of Danes to others from Iceland, Finland, Japan, and Belgium. Each weekend a party is thrown, each with a theme. Two weekends ago we pretended to celebrate a little kid's birthday party- all dressed up as elementary schoolers and we pulled out games like pin the tail on the donkey, limbo, and musical chairs (which I must add I won in!) The night starts around 6 or 7 pm after dinner and the music doesn't stop until sometimes 5 or 6 in the morning. Dancing Fever is the defined here at Grundtsvig and I couldn't be a happier camper. 

Tijana is my Darling Dane. I love her with all my heart.
